BARANGAY SICSICAN — To improve community sanitation and reduce flood risks, environmental initiative Eco Kolek under Project Zacchaeus (PZC) partnered with local officials for a community clean-up drive in Purok Mahogany, Barangay Sicsican on March 27, 2026.
The three-hour activity mobilized a total of 75 participants, which included 25 Eco Warriors, 35 household members, 10 PZC staff, five barangay officials, and five representatives from Oplan Linis. Participants initially gathered at the Barangay Sicsican Gymnasium before proceeding to the designated areas.
During the main clean-up operations from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., volunteers focused on clearing clogged drainage systems, collecting scattered waste materials, and organizing the surroundings.
Prior to the physical clean-up, PZC personnel Joyce Oliverio and Dennis Creach Barcelona facilitated an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) session. The briefing educated attendees on proper waste segregation, environmental responsibility, and the role of individuals in preventing environmental degradation.
The organizers also utilized the event to provide welfare support for the volunteer Eco Warriors. PZC staff processed and discussed the provision of accidental insurance for the volunteers to offer security and protection in their daily lives. Additionally, uniforms were distributed to the Eco Warriors to foster a sense of identity and encourage further community engagement.
According to the post-activity report prepared by PZC Community Organizer Carla F. Bacus, the initiative successfully resulted in a visibly cleaner and safer environment. The report noted minor logistical issues, such as the absence of a few participants and some uniform sizes being left at the office, but these did not significantly affect the overall task distribution and coordination during the drive.
