PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — Project Zacchaeus (PZC), through its Eco Kolek program, partnered with independent power producer Delta P Inc. to launch a grassroots educational roadshow on the circular economy and solid waste management at Sta. Lourdes National High School on March 24.
The half-day initiative engaged 110 student participants, including 10 officers from the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O). The event serves as a targeted behavioral change campaign designed to institutionalize proper waste segregation at the household and school levels, strictly aligning with the mandates of Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
During the session, Eco Kolek operations personnel, led by Dennis Creach Barcelona, facilitated technical discussions outlining the "journey of waste." The module illustrated the direct environmental impacts of improper disposal and plastic pollution on local ecosystems.
Furthermore, the program introduced the students to the "10 R’s" of sustainability, a comprehensive framework aimed at minimizing waste generation and promoting material recovery. Through interactive presentations, students were tasked to develop and showcase localized environmental action plans.
The high school roadshow is a core operational component of Eco Kolek’s broader strategy to establish a sustainable, community-driven circular economy in Puerto Princesa. By integrating educational institutions into its information and education campaigns (IEC), the organization aims to cultivate a baseline of informed youth leaders—dubbed "Eco Warriors"—who can enforce and sustain environmental discipline within their respective barangays.
