Eco Kolek launched a three-day initiative called "Basura Mo, Basura Ba Talaga? ," aimed at bringing the five puroks of Barangay Bancao-Bancao (Maligaya, Masikap, Bagong Buhay-Pardeco Housing, Pagkakaisa, and Malaya) together to engage in waste segregation and support environmental conservation.
The said activity ran from February 8 to 10, 2023, in compliance with Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000), Sampung Utos ng Solid Waste Management, and the Partnership for Improved Solid Waste Management.
This campaign was spearheaded by Project Eco Kolek through the Samahan ng mga Mangangalakal sa Jacana, who are also members of the Eco-Warriors. These Eco-Warriors are beneficiaries of USAID's Clean Cities Blue Ocean program.
The residents were informed about the various laws and regulations regarding Solid Waste Management and reminded of the harmful effects of plastic waste on the marine ecosystem, environment, and human health.
The campaign culminated in a coastal clean-up dubbed as "Love Affair with Nature Coastal Clean-Up" on February 10, 2022 in Purok Masikap, Bancao-Bancao, attended by representatives from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Coastguard, and Philippine National Police.
According to these representatives, this was the first clean-up that included an orientation on waste segregation, providing the participants with additional knowledge and excitement while picking up waste from the coastline.
The team collected a total of 109 kilos of wastes: 87 killos of residual wastes and 22 kilos of recyclables.
