Project Zacchaeus-Eco Kolek Brings Circular Economy Education to Busngol Elementary School

Puerto Princesa City, Palawan — Project Zacchaeus-Eco Kolek conducted a Circular Economy Roadshow at Busngol Elementary School in Sta. Lourdes, reaching 55 students from Grades 4 to 6 alongside their teacher-advisers, as part of the organization's continuing commitment to environmental education among the city's children and youth.

The roadshow forms part of Eco Kolek's broader advocacy of empowering young learners as agents of environmental change. Recognizing schools as strategic partners in building lasting community impact, the program introduced students to the principles of the circular economy, proper waste segregation under Republic Act 9003, and the 5Rs framework, while encouraging them to see themselves as Eco Warriors at home, in school, and in their community.

The program opened with an overview of Project Zacchaeus-Eco Kolek's mission and environmental advocacy, followed by a session on the journey of waste and its impact on the environment. Students then took part in an interactive activity on proper waste segregation before moving into a discussion on the circular economy, exploring the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling resources. A subsequent session on the role of youth in building a cleaner and greener future encouraged students to recognize their own part in advancing sustainability. To reinforce the day's lessons, participants joined a poster-making activity titled "Youth Action for Environmental Protection" and a quiz bee, before the program closed with a commitment-setting activity and the presentation of tokens of appreciation to the school's teachers.

Students remained attentive and enthusiastic throughout the sessions, actively taking notes and participating in each activity. One teacher observed that many of the students are children of Solid Waste Management workers, which allowed them to connect closely with the discussions and lessons presented. Teachers across the board offered positive feedback on the program, commending its relevance and delivery.

The Busngol Elementary School Roadshow reflects Project Zacchaeus-Eco Kolek's continuing partnership with schools across Puerto Princesa in advancing environmental education, equipping the city's youth with the knowledge and inspiration to become lifelong advocates for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
